Lesson 4 of 4 · Grade 10 Chemistry
The mole concept
15 min
The mole is the amount of substance containing 6.02 x 10²³ particles (Avogadro's number).
Molar mass
The mass of one mole in grams, equal to the relative atomic or formula mass.
- H = 1, C = 12, O = 16, Na = 23, Cl = 35.5, Ca = 40
- Molar mass of CO₂ = 12 + 2(16) = 44 g/mol
- Molar mass of NaCl = 23 + 35.5 = 58.5 g/mol
