Food chains and the environment

All living things depend on each other for food.

Producers and consumers

• Producers: green plants make their own food using sunlight.
• Consumers: animals that eat plants or other animals.
• Herbivores eat plants (cow, rabbit, grasshopper).
• Carnivores eat meat (lion, hawk).
• Omnivores eat both (human, hen).
• Decomposers: bacteria and fungi break down dead things and return nutrients to the soil.
