Induction
An e.m.f. is induced when the magnetic flux linking a conductor changes (moving a magnet in a coil).
Laws
- Faraday's law: the induced e.m.f. is proportional to the rate of change of flux.
- Lenz's law: the induced current flows in a direction that opposes the change causing it.
- Fleming's right-hand rule: direction of induced current in a moving conductor (generators).
Increasing induced e.m.f.
More turns, stronger magnet, faster motion, a soft-iron core.
Generators
