Growth vs development
- Growth: permanent increase in size and dry mass.
- Development: change in form and complexity.
Germination
Conditions needed: water, oxygen and suitable temperature. Some seeds also need light.
- Epigeal: cotyledons come above the ground (bean). Hypocotyl elongates.
- Hypogeal: cotyledons stay below ground (maize). Epicotyl elongates.
