Lesson 3 of 4 ยท Form 3 Biology
Reproduction in flowering plants
18 min
Parts of a flower
- Stamen (male): anther (makes pollen) + filament.
- Pistil/carpel (female): stigma, style, ovary (with ovules).
- Petals attract insects; sepals protect the bud.
Pollination
Transfer of pollen from anther to stigma.
- Insect-pollinated: large bright petals, scent, nectar, sticky pollen, stigma inside the flower.
- Wind-pollinated: small dull petals, light smooth pollen, feathery stigma hanging out (maize, grass).
- Self (same flower or plant) vs cross (different plant).
