15 min
Pressure in solids
Pressure = Force ÷ Area, measured in pascals (Pa) or N/m².
A box weighing 600 N rests on an area of 2 m²: P = 600 ÷ 2 = 300 Pa.
- Small area → high pressure: sharp knives and needles, nails.
- Large area → low pressure: wide tyres on tractors, snow shoes, a camel's wide feet, broad school bag straps.
