Comprehension skills

Types of questions

• Literal: the answer is stated in the passage. Find it and answer in your own words.
• Inferential: the answer is suggested, not stated. Use clues and your reasoning. Why do you think the author...?
• Vocabulary: explain the meaning of a word as used in the passage. Replace the word with your answer; the sentence should still make sense.
• Grammar: rewrite as instructed (e.g. change to passive).
• Opinion/evaluation: give your view and support it with reasons from the passage.
