The nervous system
- Central nervous system (CNS): brain and spinal cord.
- Peripheral nervous system: nerves linking the CNS to the body.
Types of neurones
- Sensory: carries impulses from receptors to the CNS.
- Relay (intermediate): in the CNS, links sensory and motor neurones.
- Motor: carries impulses from the CNS to effectors (muscles, glands).
